In the Grand Design 2600RB, the entry way storage is an extremely large area that utilizes the space behind the TV console. This space is so deep that I can’t reach the end of it even when standing on a stool! Because of the size of this space and my lack of “go-go gadget arms”, I desperately needed to find a way to organize and utilize as much of this space as possible.
As you can see, this space quickly became a “catch all” for all things that had not yet found a home or that were used on a daily basis when going in and out of the Imagine. Hats, keys, glasses, dog toys and leashes, umbrella, fly swatter, bags and mail are just a few items that have been thrown up here at random!
I decided that because of the height of this storage area, a shelf would be a great way to utilize the vertical space! A shelf would allow for 2x the amount of storage and would give me the option to use baskets or bins to separate everything by “like” items.
A simple design and a little spray paint made building the shelf easy but making it the correct side, not so much. After carefully measuring the opening, I forgot to take into consideration the door frame. Having built it a little to wide due to the door frame, I ended up having to disassemble the shelf and reassemble it inside the storage area.
My biggest purchase for this project was a Cloth Basket I found on Amazon.com that is the exact depth of the shelf and has a handle for easy reaching. The umbrella was hung using Large Command Coat Hooks which allows for it to be out of the way from other items and utilizes the wall space beautifully! Medium Command Hooks were used to hang hats which keeps the entry way coat rack clear for coats and my purse. We already had the Magazine File Holder and use it as our mailbox. I have yet to clean it out but it keeps papers and important documents tidy and in one place. A Medium Grey Plastic Bin was also added to the space for wallets, keys, sunglasses, and other small items that are in almost constant use.
With all of these additions to the space, I am currently using only a quarter of the available storage. This modification was an inexpensive and easy way to transform this oversized entryway storage area into beautiful organized space.
