Every RV has the same enemy- Moisture. In such a small space, moisture build up happens fast. Seen in the form of condensation and air humidity, heat from our bodies, differences in inside-outside temperatures, steam from a hot shower, and heat from cooking all reek havoc on a rig!
While using a weather system that allows us to track inside-outside temperatures as well as humidity, we have found that a few simple products can go a long way to helping keep the inside humidity level around 40-50%.
One of our best RV purchases was the ProBreeze Small Space Dehumidifier! We had our doubts about this dehumidifier because of its size but it has pleasantly surprised us. It is a small counter top dehumidifier that is meant for 150 sq ft space or less. With our rig being under 200 sq ft, we weren’t sure if this dehumidifier would be enough. Because floor space is so limited, and dehumidifiers meant for larger sq ft were larger themselves, we decided to test this small dehumidifier first before investing in a larger one. The size, low price, and capabilities of this product is enough for what we need! With the addition of the DampRid Moisture Bags, we feel the condensation and humidity is kept at a minimum.
We also placed a DampRid Moisture Bag in the two highest moisture areas in our rig, the bathroom and the kitchen. These bags last us about 4-8 weeks depending on the location we are staying, the outside humidity level and temperature, and our daily habits. They not only work and smell great, but they hang so that they don’t take up any vital counter space! These bags are hung with small command hooks and have stayed in place even with traveling.
There are many ways to help keep moisture out of your rig like cracking the windows when the furnace is running, always using the overhead vent fans when cooking or bathing, and keeping air circulating using a small desk fan. When you add these two products though, you will literally see the excess moisture being pulled out of the air!
