The “s” on the end of TEST would indicate 7 Pass/Fail exams I am required to take before my new contract becomes set in stone!! With only 2 chances to pass each test or have the contract voided, my anxiety was sky high.
The tests given access your knowledge of your specialty including EKG interpretation, medications, mathematics, patient interventions, equipment used in your field, patient assessment, communication, problem solving, your personality type, and so much more! I was scared to be put on the spot knowing that my specialty kept me very isolated from the general nursing knowledge I would need to pass these exams. It has been many years since I did bedside nursing and it is true what they say about “Use it or lose it!” I spent the last 5 days studying more than I ever did for my licensing boards (NCLEX) and here is how it turned out…
I passed all but 1… The tests I was most concerned about, my studying paid off! The test I could not study for did not fair so well. My “Personality, General Reasoning, Attitude, Engagement” score was severely lacking. I have been faulted in the past for being an overly honest person and I do think that this personality trait has hindered me. I will now have to do a remediation with someone with my travel nurse agency to see what I can do to increase my chances of passing next time (to be honest, I am not sure how you can fail a very subjective tests in the first place but I managed somehow). In the mean time though, I am celebrating that I passed 6 of my 7 tests on my first try and scored the highest on the tests that were related directly to my field of specialty!
Test 7 repeat update soon and then we are Houston Bound!
