Let me start out by stating that I am in no way being compensated or endorsed by ProPride for this review. I am just one very happy customer!
In the short time we have been full time RVing, I have realized that towing with a 1500 is just not something people do. I have been asked the same questions multiple times: “Does that little 1500 actually pull that trailer?” or “You ever have any issues towing with that small truck?”
In the beginning, we did have towing issues! The sway was out of control even with the EAZ Hitch Kit with Sway Control. We became concerned that maybe we needed the larger 2500 Truck to solve this problem. We even got to the point where we test towed our trailer with a 2500 diesel truck to see if the problem was solved and for that short test drive, it was. We began to think that maybe the 1500 truck was just too lite for a trailer this size but there was one thing that kept us from taking the 2500 leap. We first owned a 24ft Coleman Lantern 202RD which was significantly smaller and lighter, and we had the SAME moderate to severe sway issues!
Let’s review some numbers!
- ToVi (Tow Vehicle) is a 2018 Chevy Silverado 6.2L V8 1500 short bed with Max Trailering Package: Tow Capacity at 11,700 lbs.
- Grand Design Imagine 2600RB: gross vehicle weight rating (fully loaded max weight) at 8,000 lbs.
- Recent CAT Scale trailer weigh-in (while fully loaded and living full time): 7,084 lbs
- (For comparison: Lantern 202RD dry weight 4,242 lbs)
Having always been well below ToVi’s tow capacity, we decided to look into a new hitch to see if we could solve the sway and improve our drive comfort and safety without having to invest in a larger truck! We were adamant about not upgrading our truck unless we absolutely had too!
After a lot of research on hitch options and reviewing the capabilities of the truck, we decided to invest in the ProPride 3P Hitch system. We did not come to this decision lightly! The ProPride is a huge investment and compared to the price of other hitching systems, the cost of the ProPride is astronomical on paper! Don’t let the price scare you away because it does everything it promises! Every penny spent is returned in safety and comfort!
Since getting the ProPride Hitch System, we have noticed drastic improvements in the towing of our Imagine! The sway is minimal, if any, and the drive feels easy. Eighteen Wheelers passing us are barely felt and a cross wind no longer takes our backend out from behind us. The Imagine stays on ToVi’s line and goes only where she goes. I can’t explain how this hitch works, I refer you to the experts at https://www.propridehitch.com/ for that, but I stand behind this upgrade and investment 100%. This was the BEST and MOST IMPORTANT upgrade we made to our ToVi/Grand Design Imagine!

We tow an Grand Design Imagine 2970RL with a 2018 F-150 long bed with max tow and max payload packages and the ProPride. Our results are the same. The PP is everything they advertise.
The ProPride really does allow these well equipped 1500 trucks to reach their full potential!
I would like to know the Approximate cost involved?
Say a 1/2 ton truck pulling an 8000 lb load?
Check out https://www.propridehitch.com/ !!! The owner is super cool so feel free to call him with any questions!
