Last week after receiving my all clear for a July 8th start date, I also received my “Reporting Information” that included my orientation location, time, and parking instructions.
Following the instructions given, I made it to my hospital orientation without any problems. Because this hospital system has multiple locations around the area, my hospital orientation did not take place at my primary location.
Travel Nurses hospital orientation is nearly identical to what I remember as a new hire starting out in a new hospital! Creating logins and passwords, learning how to use the charting system, get your photo taken for your badge, TONS of online modules, and instructions for department orientation which will start tomorrow for me. The main difference from a “New Hire” orientation that I noticed is that I will not be using the hospitals Clock-in/Clock-out system. I will be doing everything online through a separate 3rd party company which will then work with my Travel Agency. The other HUGE difference, all of the online modules must be completed that day! No 30 day window to get those done… I just spend the majority of my 7 hour orientation reading power points and taking tests. If you have been following along on this journey, you know my extreme passion and love for tests. (yes, I am being sarcastic)
Overall, I simply felt like a new hire about to start a new job! Which I find great because I felt comfortable and prepared for the process. I am familiar with the EMR system from previous employment and this hospital has VERY SIMILAR protocols and procedures to what I am use to.
After completing all hospital orientation requirements, I was given everything I need for reporting to my unit tomorrow including directions to the facility, instructions on where to park and how to find my unit, skills check-off lists and a search and find check-off. I have completed 1 day of my contract and have 54 more to go!
