“Which Water Filtration System” is probably one of the hottest topics in Full-time RV living. With so many options available, it comes down to your personal opinion on how much filtration is enough and the amount of storage and counter space in your rig!
My husband and I have never been super picky about our water. In our Sticks and Bricks home, we drank from a single filter fridge and that was plenty filtration for us! When we moved into our Imagine, we started looking for advise on what filtration systems other RVers were using. Despite recommendations for the MEGA 3 filter plus UV light systems, we decided that was unnecessary for us and way out of our budget.
We opted for the typical Camco TastePURE Inline Water Filter at the water connection site and then a Culligan Canister with Aquaboon Coconut Shell and Activated Carbon Water Filter Cartridge mounted under the kitchen sink. We have great tasting water without the loss of our storage space and at an affordable price.
Installing the Culligan Canister took a little engineering though. We took our canister to a local hardware store where we bought all the conversions and connections needed to make it adapt to our rig.
To top it off, we installed an ESOW Kitchen Water Filter Faucet. We were unsure if the filtration system would effect our water pressure, so we decided to have the filter connect to a separate faucet. We also wanted a separate faucet that did not connect to the hot water line because that line would remain unfiltered. Having the separate faucet ensured us that only filtered water would run through that faucet and allows the filters to last longer by limiting use.
Knowing that the USA has the cleanest water in the world, a heavy and bulky filtration system is a bit excessive! Now, I understand that not ALL places in the US have great water…. I will go ahead and say NO, I am not camping in Flint, Michigan and understand that if we end up in areas like this, my solution would be to buy gallons of bottled water for the time being! But for the majority of places we go, a two step filter is enough for us. We have been very happy with our decision and for the price, it’s unbeatable.
