Living small is easy but does require some work and for us, that meant a few habit changes!
We were always Dishwasher people, never washing by hand. There are 2 questions that we now ask ourselves regarding our “previous life”. The first, why did we need a set of 8 dishes and silverware when it was only ever the 2 of us. And secondly, why did we waste so much water on a chore that requires so little effort!
The first habit change was ensuring that the dishes were washed after every use! With only having 2 of each kind of dish and silverware, it motivated us to wash the dishes immediately after use so that it would be available next time. This habit change was easy, but it was harder to convince ourself the need to dry and put the dishes away every time!
To compromise on our new habit of washing after use and our reluctance to dry and put away, we purchased a dish drying rack that can be stored inside the sink and not take up counter space!
While we are washing the dishes, we place the Prepworks by Progressive Collapsible Over-The-Sink Dish Drainer on the counter leaf. Under the drain, we have a Microfiber Dish Drying Mat to collect any water runoff.
