It is hard to believe we have already been here for a week. As we learn our new host city, we have had the chance to get our feet wet with a few local eateries and a local hike.
Elephant Arch Trail was an unexpected adventure just a few miles from our Home on Wheels. The access road turned to dirt and the trail head led us to a beautiful valley surrounded by red rock cliffs and desert sand and heat. The trail wound through what looked like a dried river bed eventually ending at the Elephant Arch. It was a hot, strenuous hike that we did not expect and quickly learned that we didn’t pack enough water for. Lessons learned!
Our next adventure, we branched out a little further and drove the 50 minute drive to Zion National Park. Pa’ rus trail is the only trail that is pet-friendly in the park and decided to take Watson along. The weather was perfect at a cool crisp 60 degrees this morning and warming up to just over 70 degrees for the day. An almost constant wind kept the air feeling just a little chili and perfect for the 4+ miles we clocked today. This trail started just outside the visitor center and followed along the river, winding through the valley of these amazing rock formations. It was the perfect hike to top off our weekend and gave us the first look at what this gorgeous park has to offer.
With Zion NP being cyclist and hiking friendly, I expect a lot of our weekends and free time to be spent at this park. Not far from us, we also have Bryce Canyon NP, Snow Canyon State Park, and the Grand Canyon all within a “day-trip” drive of us! So much to see and only 12 more weeks to see it!
