After not feeling well at the start of this week, I found myself skipping our Wednesday adventures so that I could sleep and rest before our epic weekend hike.
Angel’s Landing. One of the most talked about and heart pounding hikes you will find at Zion National Park. The trail follows the ridge line and up the steep rock cliff edge with nothing but a chain rail to hold to. Don’t look down, cliffs edge on all sides of you!
Due to the dense smoke this morning from a near by wildfire, the view from the top was not at its best, but that does not mean the hike wasn’t worth it!
The smoke gave this land a mysterious hue and a sense of wonder. The sun was up but the mountains stayed hidden, giving you only a glimpse of their presence and nothing else.
The fall colors were bright against the iron rich red cliff mountains and the trail was twisted, as if daring you to keep going.
The first set of switchbacks was only the beginning to this grueling hike, but looking back to see where you came from, that was the best part!
With only 6 weeks left in this contract, this last planned hike at Zion NP gave us one last glimpse of the wonder and power of nature. I was left in awe as the sun broke through the smoke, leaving light rays that lit the valley floor. The gold of the season shimmering when the light overcame the dark.
There is still more to come as we adventure to Bryce National Park next!
