Contract #1 Vs. Contract #2
This weekend, I spent my time on call at the hospital. With no epic hikes to share, I thought I could talk about how this Contract is going inside the workplace.
Contract #2 has been drastically different from Contract #1! And I am basing that strictly on the hospital differences!
(To really get a feel for what I am comparing too, feel free to read through my Contract #1 blog series!)
Contract #2 Hospital is run so much better than my previous contract facility. There are multiple things I could rant and rave about when comparing the two different contract facilities, but there are two differences with Contract #2 that made a huge impact on my experience as a travel nurse.
The first difference, Contract #2 Endoscopy unit was fully staffed when I was brought onboard. Yes, fully staffed! The key was, they had just hired a new nurse. I started the same day as the new nurse and my job and role as the travel nurse is to work in her position until she is fully trained and off orientation. This hospital did not have me there to fill in for a severely understaffed department and that made my job less stressful.
The second difference goes right along with the first in that I am viewed as a staff nurse and not a traveler for all work purposes. My daily assignments are appropriate for a nurse new to the department and my responsibilities grew as my time and experience at their facility increased. I have felt safe working in this department for the most part and feel that I am treated fairly and equally in comparison to my previous contract.
There are still things that are not great about travel nursing and I am confident in saying that there will always be the bad that comes along with the good, but overall, this location and hospital will be on my radar for future travel opportunities!
Next week, I will resume my regularly scheduled outdoor adventures and can’t wait to get back out on the trails! Only 4 weeks left here in Utah, so keep following along on this amazing and crazy Travel Nurse adventure!
