Once I arrive at my contract location, there are a few housekeeping things that I try to do before my start date.
The first, find a grocery store! Seems so simple, but finding a grocery store you like really isn’t that easy. It is a simple thing that we all take for granted, having that one grocer that we love to shop at, that has all our favorite items and knowing exactly where they are located on the shelves!! But as a Travel Nurse, I simply have to find the closest grocery store to my home-on-wheels and hope for the best.
Second, I always drive to and from my contracting hospital on Sunday (the day before my start date). I try to find two different routes if possible, a highway and a back roads route to help avoid any last minute panic if traffic is worse than anticipated. I am someone who feels that if I have prepared as best as possible, my day with go that much smoother.
And lastly, we try to do something small, whether it be a hike or a city tour, to welcome ourselves to our new host city. This Contract, we are parked just down the road from the local farmers market! We adventured out to see what the fuss was all about and we loved our first taste of Asheville.
The Farmers Market was full of fresh baked bread, produce, and handmade artisans! We each picked out our own vegetable and grabbed a fresh loaf of jalapeno cheddar bread for dinner that night. What better way to eat fresh and support the local community!
Now, I am ready to start Contract #3. Each week, I will document my time here in Asheville and share my adventures with you via a new blog post every Sunday! Keep following along and feel free to share any must see places or must eat restaurants!
