This contract was a little bit unique in the sense that it is only 8 weeks but for a specific reason. When I interviewed for this contract, the manager did inform me that I was taking over another travelers contract. The previous traveler failed to report for work after only 4 weeks. The Contracting Facility would not open more full length (13 week) contracts until this incomplete contract position was filled, which is how I ended up on an 8 week contract.
Being in the position of a short contract, I am already taking night and weekend call, along with being off orientation for the procedure room and the PACU positions. Because I am a short contract, I was also told that I would not be trained or work in the pre-op area due to time constraints. With the short contract, I have also already received my schedule for my remaining time here in Asheville and have decided to not extend my stay.
With every hospital I have been to, the job never changes! I learn their charting and off I go as an independent nurse working in “their” unit. But now that I have seen a few different hospitals and worked as a Travel Nurse for nearly a year, I am starting to see the similarities in these facilities.
The biggest similarity being that both Sugar Land, TX and Asheville facilities are applying for Magnet Status and both of these hospitals are severely short staffed and required an exorbitant amount of testing for Travel Nurses.
With only 5 weeks left, we have continued our “Food Tour” of Asheville. This week, The White Duck Taco shop. A very eclectic and unique taco restaurant with some wild flavor combinations trying to pass as a taco. Though we both had mixed feelings about this restaurant, we found ourselves loving their Queso dip and Coconut lime margaritas.
This week, we also had our first “real” snowfall! We are surviving winter RV Life and are still deeply in love with our decision to live tiny and pursue this lifestyle. Although we are surviving the cold, we can not wait to get back to Texas!
Keep following along as we continue to eat our way through Asheville!
