Phase 2: Lights and an Unexpected Bonus
Our final project before we leave for my 4th travel nurse contract is complete!
We initially wanted to add LED shop lights to both of the workshops but we came upon a pair of industrial fluorescent lights that had been salvaged years ago from a local construction site. The lights were free to a good home and they can now be found in my workshop!
The process to add the lights took some time and planning! After deciding to run a conduit along the wall from the breaker panel to the door, we then came off of the light switch and ran conduit vertical to the ceiling. By adding a couple junction boxes, we were able to mount a light switch and both lights in the same run of conduit! We hung the lights using chains and added new daylight fluorescent bulbs to complete this much needed addition.
This frog also found a home after 20+ years in an attic! While helping my in-laws prepare for a yard sale, I came across this light switch face plate that once belong to my husband when he was a kid. Something so small and simple can take a space and give it character and I knew that I had to keep him.
The unexpected bonus came a few days later! I have been keeping a lookout for a used washer and dryer to add to my workshop. Although, this was not a must have before we leave, finding a good deal can happen at any moment. When we stumbled upon this set, it was way too good a deal to pass up! We were not planning on adding washer/dryer connections before we left, but now that we had bought a gently used set, we had one last electrical project before we packed up to head east!
Because we planned for a future washer and dryer when we ran conduit during phase 1 of our electrical project, we already had a blank run of conduit to the wall where the connections needed to be placed. This made the process fairly easy and left us with only having to add a short run of conduit along the back wall, pull wires, and then add sockets.
With this addition, my side of the barn is looking like a palace and it is time to work on Chris’. When we return home, we will be switching sides and beginning work turning his workshop into a wood workers paradise. I will once again be documenting our progress along the way, so be sure to check back in a few months, and we will continue to turn The Barn into an extension of our RV Home!
