This weeks adventures started out much like the others! After 20+ miles of washboard dirt roads that led us deep into Navajo Nation, we finally made it to the start of another epic hike!
From the parking lot, the trail to the canyon lead us deep into desert wilderness, but what we walked into was another world all together.
“Toad stool” formations littered the canyon floor!
Looking down from the rim, they seems so small and fragile but up close, they tower over you with the strength of ages.
The hike in and around these powerful formations was like no other! Petrified wood litters the sandy ground and speaks of a history with a different kind of view.
This canyon was once a river bed surrounded by an ancient forrest but has been reborn into a canyon with secrets it has only begun to tell.
With every ridge we climbed and trail we followed, Ah-shi-sle-pah was full of newly forming Toad Stools and those that have been standing for centuries.
This place was truly worth a long pause. To just sit and look around, wondering how and for how long did it take for this hidden treasure to appear.
To imagine what this land looked like millions of years ago and what will it transform into a million years from now.
I don’t believe it could get any better than this,
for this is how I will always remember it!
The more time I spend exploring this land, the more I have found respect and love for New Mexico! The history accents the unique beauty that can be found only here.
Keep following along every Sunday as I continue my adventures as a Travel Nurse and document them along the way!!
