There was no better way to spend a long weekend than a road trip to Central Texas!
We headed to Buchanan Dam in the middle of the Texas hill country! The weather was warm, breeze was cool and the adventures are endless.
Spider Mountain Bike Park, the only lift-served mountain bike park in Texas, was AWESOME!! We have been talking about getting mountain bikes ever since Contract #2 in Saint George, Utah and I am only disappointed that we didn’t add these bikes to our collection of hobbies sooner.
They call the “bunny slopes” Itsy Bitsy, but there was nothing Itsy Bitsy about it!
The first time down the mountain was slow and scary! I had no idea what I was doing except for staying upright, staying upright was my only goal! The more trips down the mountain I took, the more I learned about how to let go of “some” control and let the bike do its job! The turns were tight and the ground was loose but with every run, my confidence grew… not to say I broke any downhill records or hit some record top speeds, but I had a blast.
After a day spent at Spider Mountain, it was time for a more low key adventure! My original hiking plans included a waterfall but after being turned away by the Park Ranger at the gate of Inks State park due to Covid restrictions limiting the number of visitors per day, The Longhorn Cavern State Park was a beautiful alternative. Dense with a Cedar forest, this well shaded and short hike was beautiful in its own way!
The CCC created the historical structures found on this state park in the 1930s and they were stunning!
The old Lookout Tower was absolutely beautiful and the spiral staircases led to the stars.
After our time spend exploring Longhorn Cavern State Park, we headed to the nearby town of Burnet.
Bluebonnet Festival, sunshine, and corndogs!
Where will this grand adventure takes us next? Keep following along as I continue my search for my 6th Travel Nurse Contract!
