I am officially over half-way on this contract! This has definitely been one of the hardest hospital to learn, but after 7 very long and hard weeks, I am finally to the point where I feel like I will survive this contract.
With no energy left to go out on an epic weekend hike, Chris and I decided to do something a little different and enjoy a more low key day.
We headed to the Nevada state capital, Carson City. The Kit Carson Trail led us on a walking “treasure hunt” of some of the most beautiful and unique homes built in one area between the years of 1860- early 1900s.
But it was these unique stones and small pillars that captivated my imagination! This feature could be found outside of almost every home on our walking tour and it didn’t take long for us to figured out their purpose. Do you have a guess on what they were used for in the late 1800s?
My guess: The pillar is a horse tie post and the stones are the steps for the horse drawn buggies! How stinking cool is that!!
After sightseeing 48 historic homes and buildings, we took a break from the heat and headed to the Nevada State Museum.
The museum featured small displays of the life and history of the state. My favorite exhibit, the history of the silver mining.
The museum is housed in the old U.S Mint building where the original press is still making silver coins to this day.
After a very yummy brick oven pizza and a couple drinks on the square, it was time to call it a day. Carson City was one of my “wanna see destinations” and this was the perfect way to mark it off my list!
Next week I have a 3 day weekend and with the temperatures getting to over 100 degrees here, it may be time to head back to Lake Tahoe for a day at the beach.
Keep following along as I continue to take this crazy amazing travel nurse adventure one day at a time.
