I have already been here in Tyler for a month. Time has definitely flown by and going home every other weekend has been awesome!
Work is smoothing itself out and although I am getting placed in rooms that are performing advanced cases I have not been trained on, I am making the Doctors and Techs aware that I am going to need guidance and instruction from them in order to do my job. Both have been very receptive to the upfront honesty. Techs are helping me get the rooms set up for the cases and Doctors have been very patient with me learning on the fly and even training me themselves. I was also able to speak with one of the Reps for a product I had never used and he has offered to bring in a “training” system for me to learn on… even though he brought it in on a day that I had zero down time from 7 am to 530 pm, the fact that he brought it in and was going to take the time to train me on the equipment was awesome! I will have to ask the Rep to bring it in again on a day that looks a bit slower.
I have no doubt that by the end of my 26 weeks here in Tyler, my knowledge and experience in advanced endoscopy cases is going to make me an even more valuable endoscopy travel nurse. As a Travel Nurse, I have learned that it is very hard to grow your skills. Most hospitals will either have you stick to what you know and use their own staff for more advanced cases or they simply won’t hire you if you do not have experience and don’t meet all of their requirements. Training a Travel Nurse is just not something hospitals will do! So despite my frustrations early on in this contract with my lack of advanced skills but also having to be “competent” during call, I am taking this rare opportunity to learn as much as I can from this team that is open to training a traveler.
This was also my last 3 day weekend scheduled for the next couple of months and I took advantage of it for sure!
Friday morning after doing work around The Imagine, I went to the archery range for a quick practice before heading back to Nacogdoches for a long weekend.
After switching out my bows a few weekends ago, I have quickly settled back into a groove with The Black Pearl! The time I have spent at the range has given me something to look forward to every week! Although I have only gotten to go on my days off, I love having that time again behind my bow!
After a quick practice, home was calling my name! This weekend was the Boutique Crawl in downtown Nac and it was so much fun! The boutiques and shops stayed open late, had unlimited wine/punch/seltzers and snacks, and offered a unique shopping experience!
We had a great time shopping, laughing, and supporting our local small businesses! Boutique Crawls are my new favorite “Ladies Nite” out!
Late nights always turn into early mornings, but it was worth waking up for!
Fog cloaked the farm bringing with it an ethereal scene. It was a stunning sight and there was no better subject than the local residents to photograph!
They were so feisty and full of character!
I wasn’t going to take my camera with this weekend, but I am so glad I did! Even the smallest moments can make a beautiful image! It was definitely a reminder to myself that I don’t have to be in an exotic place to enjoy capturing my life.
My life at home is just as beautiful as my adventures on the road!
