This week was our first winter experience in The ReImagine!!
Knowing that a deep freeze here in Texas was set to hit Thursday afternoon and the traumas of last winters freeze leaving nearly the entire state without power, we decided to not take any chances! Wednesday night after work, we drove down to The Barn to grab our “winter preparedness” items we bought this past summer. A generator that runs on gas and propane that is large enough to run a 30AMP rig and a spare 30lb propane tank! Knowing that if we lost electricity, our rig would be in danger of serious water damage and we would be without all necessities including a source of heat and running water! Luckily, we ended up not needing it, but the peace of mind in having it is essential when living the RV lifestyle!
And our first winter RV experience in The ReImagine was actually great! This rig is far more 4 seasons ready than The Imagine was and this deep freeze didn’t even phase us! With tank heaters, better insulation, and with our built in water filter, we essentially did not have to do anything but close the grey water drains, empty out the sewer hose, and disconnect and drain the ice maker water line prior to the freeze. We will still get a skirt for the rig this summer, but knowing what we know now, this rig is truly 4 seasons!
With the weather turning icy, work also had its preparedness plan. Thursday and Friday was closed in the outpatient center and we ran a volunteer skeleton crew for the inpatients. With a few extra people showing up to help, it made these last two days of the week a breeze in a usually very stressful environment! The department was finished scoping patients by around 1 pm and working half days both days was actually what I needed! I was seriously beginning to feel burned out and I felt as if I just needed a few days off to rest… these half days did the trick! This weekend, I am actually feeling mentally better and ready to tackle these last 6 weeks of this contract!!
Saturday, we spent the morning in the woods enjoying the clean crisp winter air playing disc golf and then that afternoon, my parents came up from Nacogdoches to spend the remainder of the day with us. It was honestly the perfect day!
As I now embark of the last 6 weeks of this contract, the words of my manager are ringing in my ears- “The next schedule, you are only on half of it… I’m sad”!
In my head I’m thinking “I’m not but shhh don’t tell anyone!” (insert emoji with the finger over their mouth here!)
Keep following along as we defrost from this last week and say hello to warmer Texas winters!
I’m glad you didn’t freeze. It’s been cold here but no ice.
