Wind Cave National Park was founded with one purpose, to protect what is hidden below the surface!
The natural entrance to the cave is nothing more than a crevice between rocks. In the 1880s, this was the passageway that led to a whole different world.
When the barometric pressure changes, it causes air to move into or out of the cave through this entrance as if it was breathing.
Once below the surface, the unique beauty of this cave system is easy to see.
I have been to a few caves before, like Ruby Falls and Mammoth Cave, but I have never seen boxwork formations like this in the past.
It is a beautiful cave in its own way and at 53 degrees F, it was a nice break from the unusually warm day we were having.
This was our last adventure before we start our journey home. It has been an AMAZING week full of unforgettable moments and memories that will last a lifetime!
