As some of you may know, The ReImagine completed her maiden voyage with an epic trip to South Dakota. During this grand adventure, we encountered some extreme weather including tornado force winds. We are all safe and were able to navigate and avoid the worst of these storms, but The ReImagine took a little beating!
I noticed a rip occurring in the slide topper awning nearest to the entry way door. The rip was small but we all know that once a rip starts, the slightest force will continue to increase the damage.
With the rip being small and catching it early, I decided to try to repair it myself and not go through the timely process of claiming warranty work on it. To be honest, there is not a lot I can do to ”Repair” the damage, but with the use of some Awning Tape, I hope to prevent further damage from occurring.
So, onto the roof I went with all of my tools and supplies! Once I was on the roof and able to get a closer look at the slide topper awning, I was able to immediately see why this area of awning gave way. During installation of the awning toppers, the technician screwed the rail system to the RV by puncturing straight through the awning material!
I found a rail screw through every slide topper on the rig! I ended up adding Awning Tape to every corner of every slide topper, whether there was a screw present or not, the areas got reinforced!
It baffles me that these installation errors occur in the first place, but it is definitely a price I am willing to pay to live a life of travel and freedom. Fingers crossed that todays repair holds strong!
Having the mindset of ”I can fix this” is a life motto around here, and that motto is sure to stick around for years to come!
