Well, that was fast!! This morning I asked my Recruiter to submit my profile for a job and within 6 hours, I got a call to interview with the hiring manager.
Interviewing for travel nurse positions have always gone the same way for me. The hiring manager talks about their department and how it is ran. How many Doctors they have, how many rooms, and what procedures they offer. They give me a little insight into how the flow of each department goes on a daily basis and what the expectations are of travel nurses in their department. Some departments only ask for traveler to work 1 aspect of the department and others expect you to work wherever there is a need.
I have my list of questions that I make sure to get answered as well! For me, having the department sound like the right fit for me is just as important as the hiring manager thinking I am the right fit for them! I always want to make sure the call sounds appropriate for the length of the contract (there are contracts that overwhelm travelers with 75 percent of all call), that there is anesthesia in the room (I am not a fan of Nurse Sedation), what advanced procedures do they offer and will they train me for any procedure I am not familiar with, and do they provide scrubs! The last one is HUGE!! Nothing worse than living in an RV and having a full load of scrubs laundry every week! I also discuss my request off dates or any special scheduling needs before ending the interview.
With all my questions answered, already having my RV park booked, and the pay package looking good… Where do I sign!!
The manager was very nice and this department sounds like a fit for a Fall/Winter 13 week contract!
After hanging up with the manager, the next step is to reach out to my recruiter and let her know I got the call. I let her know my feelings and what impressions I got from the manager. The hiring managers usually offer the job before ending the interview so I have always known whether to be expecting a contract offer. Then my recruiter gets to work reaching out to her contacts at the hospital to try to ensure the offer comes through.
That is where I am now, my recruiter is hard at work and I am waiting… Once the contract comes through, I will have my exact start and end dates and then I will have to hit the ground running with the next steps of this process!!!
Stay tuned as I hopefully confirm my next big travel nurse adventure!
