After over 5 years of full-time RV living, it is time for change. We always knew that RV life was not forever… In fact, we only predicted 5-7 years of us living the full time RV lifestyle. Now that I am no longer working as a nurse, we have found ourselves settling into life in Texas on the family land. As time has gone on and as we spend more and more time stationary, we have decided to start the process for the next chapter in our story!
We are building a house!!
These last few months, we have weighed every option for our future. Build or buy, here or somewhere else… we have put hours of time looking into and discussing every option but at the end of the day, we decided to stay next to The RV Barn and build our dream house. Once we decided to stay here and build, we then started the design process… which is the stage we are in now. We have viewed hundreds of house plans online and have found a size and modified a floorpan that will fit our needs while allowing us to continue to plan for possible futures. It’s a very small modest home right around 1,000 sq ft, 2 bed, 1 bath that will highlight our love for the outdoors with a wrap-around porch.
Just change out for a metal roof and change the paint colors and this is exactly what I envision for my country cottage!!
Since we designed the floor plan ourselves, we have sent our exterior photo sample along with our floor plans to an architect/home designer to see if we can successfully “mash” the two and get a building plan for our General Contractor!
And now we are waiting to hear back!
As we go through this process, I want to document it every step of the way. We have a big 3 week RV adventure coming up in September but the house build will otherwise slow our RV travels down for now. Don’t worry, we are far from being done with RV adventures… they are just on hold for a short time while we start this next chapter in our story!
Keep following along as I eagerly and impatiently start to pick our paint colors and flooring… I’ll probably be asking for advise and suggestions as well! Has anyone else designed and built their own home? What are some things you wish you had thought of before or changes you would make looking back?
Congratulations. I know craving was a great time and.pictures were great but having a home is great too. Designing and watching the build will be an experience as well
Good luck
How exciting. We are in this phase too. Settling on land next week. Met with a couple builders and are designing our home now. We will still be traveling but wanted a home base as well. It will be a small home and large pole barn. After living small the past 4 1/2 years we really want to continue the simple lifestyle. Wishing you the best in this next chapter.
