With our house design and layout nearly complete, it was time for us to meet with a builder and find out if we are able to turn our ideas into reality.
I was incredibly hopeful and excited after speaking with the home building company… They really did have a great business model and made me feel like our project would be safe in their hands. Unfortunately, like everything else in this world, the price for our 1000 sq ft build was completely unfathomable and we once again had to start thinking about how we imagined our future. We have started to realize that the price of something doesn’t always equate “Value” and I know some people may not understand this or agree with me… but never will the value of this home be worth the price of the home for us. What we “Value” in our home is simplicity, security, and a place to call our own… Having a home is important to us, but what is also important is still having the ability to travel freely and remain financially independent. We would rather put the extra money into our retirement/travel fund than into a house that adds no extra “value” to our lives. With this mindset, whether I have a 50K dollar home or a 350K dollar home, they both will provide me with the same amount of value… so why drain our future for short-term gratification.
After coming to this realization, we decided to revisit an option we looked into early on in the process and that was modifying a small Modular Home to fit our needs. And this is where we are at now… We have done a ton of research on the build quality of modular homes, visited many different options, looked at floor plans, and talked with a modular home builder about what we envision for our home. We are now waiting to hear back to see if our requested modifications are possible and the quote for a Modular Home build of this kind.
Keep following along as we continue to transition into this next chapter of our story and I document all the ups, downs, and lessons we learn along the way!
